| Harry's Story |
In September 1998 Harry Senior fought Michael Sprott for the Southern Area Heavyweight Title. Michael had a 11-0 record and was the last boxer managed by the late Terry Lawless. Harry won the fight in the sixth round with a devastating body attack, ending Michael's unbeaten record.
Harry had his chances in a 17 fight pro career including a shot at the vacant Commonwealth Title against Danny Williams and a win over future British Champion Michael Holden.
When Harry was made redundant from his job of 20 years at a paper mill he took work as a sparring partner in December 2009. On his third day of sparring Harry had a stroke and was rushed to hospital. He suffered a second
and more severe stroke that night, his partner Sandra was told to gather round his family.
Anyone that knows Harry knew he would fight. He won the 1st round of this comeback by surviving against the odds.
After the life saving treatment Harry received at The National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, Queen Square, Harry was transferred to The Frank Cooksey Rehabilitation Unit where he made superb progress. Harry is eternally grateful to all those that have helped him this far in such a short time.
Harry currently has homecare. He has speech therapy and physiotherapy at his home in Catford. Harry is going to have to rely on his fighting heart again to get back to a good quality of life.
After an amateur career at The Lynn Athletic Club, boxing for England and 11 years as a pro Harry Senior believes boxing owes him nothing. Perhaps it doesn't.

Harry visited my home in Gravesend for the first time since his stroke. Harry is now walking with the use of a crutch. Although still limited in vocabulary, his speech is crystal clear. A part of H's skull was removed to allow his brain to swell at the time of the accident. He is awaiting a date from his doctors to have it replaced.
H's right hand side is restricted in movement and feeling at present but he is working hard with his physiotherapists to regain normal movement.
One thing that hasn't changed at all is H's ability to get the women in my home to fuss around him. He still has that devious twinkle in his eye. Enough said....!
Wednesday 1st September 2010
My third visit with H to Lewisham Hospital Physiotherapy department. Harry has a session in the gym every Wednesday where he is put through his paces by head physiotherapist Iris Lobemeier (Pictured here with H).
Former British and European Light Middleweight title challenger David Walker has also been to these physio sessions with H so Iris knows that H's boxing mates will help him all the way.
Big thank you to Iris who has been involved in H's recovery since he first arrived at Lewisham hospital.
Wednesday 8th September 2010
Took H to David Walker's gym in Sidcup. Dave and H boxed on the same England squad in Germany back in 1995. Dave is a busy personal trainer so it shows his commitment to H that he makes time to help.
I was telling Dave about a time many years ago when we had H on the karaoke singing 'I believe I can fly' . When I asked H if he remembered, he answered yes and then sang the chorus. Not remarkable to most but H struggles with more than 2 word sentences for the time being. He was still out of tune but it's not Britain's got talent.
We still need a few of H's old boxing friends to pledge a little time to help with things. Maybe a lift here and there. Please get in contact.

We are hoping to have several members of the press and Sky Sports camera's joining us with the hope of publicising the print so we can raise funds for Harry.

We have secured a venue to host a fundraiser for Harry. With a maximum capacity of 200 people this should allow us to raise enough money to ease some of Harry's immediate financial problems.
Harry needs to concentrate on his recovery and the financial situation causes stress that is detrimental to that process.
The fundraiser is on November 20th at the Carter Rooms in Carter Lane EC4. Tickets are now on sale here: Fundraiser
Cost of the tickets will be £30.00 and this will include bar snacks.

Harry's weekly visit to Lewisham Hospital Physiotherapy department was very productive. Harry's physiotherapist Iris Lobemeier put him through some very tough excersises that resulted in Harry being able to stand for a short time on his right leg only ( H's stroke resulted in his right side being paralysed).
Harry's close friend David Walker was there giving H all the encouragement he needed.
A short video clip of H walking between parralell bars shows the progress he is making. Please Click Here.

Went to The National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery in Queens Square today with Harry. This was an appointment that H had been waiting for, for a long while. Today they gave H a CAT scan to get the measurements for the operation to replace the section of skull that they removed when he had his stroke in December 2009. Hopefully this means that at the next appointment which is on the 17th November, H will get a date for the operation.
We all think this will be a major step forward for H in his recovery.
Wednesday 17th November 2010
We have a Harry Senior group set up on Facebook for those that use it. We would like as many people as
possible to join so we can get our message out there.
There will be links to the group on all our pages.
Taking Harry for what we hope is his final appointment before his operation at The National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery in Queens Square this afternoon. Lets hope he gets a date some time soon.

Harry's fundraiser on Saturday night was a great night. Many of H's old amateur and pro former team mates and training partners came along as well as a good crowd of familly, friends and well wishers. Master of ceremonies Bob Williams, DJ Sean Mooney, singer Natalie Evans and the Sky Sports TV cameras provided a great atmosphere.
Special thanks to the management and staff of The Carter Rooms who provided us all with not only a lovely venue but superb food, great service and surprisingly well priced drinks for a greater London venue.

Harry was guest of honour at The Fisher Boxing Club Christmas dinner show at Welling Rugby Club. He handed out the trophy's to the boxers.
Also present were former Fisher boxers David Walker and Lloyd Honeyghan.
Harry would like to thank the Fisher for the invitation and a wonderful evening of boxing.
Although H was a long standing member of The Lynn Athletic club in his amateur days he has always held the Fisher in very high regard and has many friends who have been members at tHe Fisher in the past.
Sunday 12th December 2010
Harry was fellow guest of honour at the Home Counties Ex Boxers Association Christmas get together. Harry's fellow guest of honour was former light middleweight contender Jason Rushton who was injured in October 2009.
Representitves of 8 EBA's were present and congratulations must go to Bob Williams and the other members of The HCEBA for putting on a wonderful day.
H is pictured here with former undisputed middleweight champion of the world Terry Downs. Also present and deserving a mention was Mark Goult the former bantamweight contender who was injured in 1990. Mark is a credit to boxing and his familly for his fighting spirit.
Please click on Terry and Harry's picture to see more images.

Harry received a visit from old friend Audley Harrison MBE. Audley was on a short visit to the UK but made the time to go and see H at his home in Catford. Despite the negative press Audley has received since his fight with David Haye, it has to be said that as of yet there has been no one more generous with both his time and money than Audley.
Pictured here with Audley and Harry is H's eldest daughter Charlene who muscled her way into the picture despite giving away about 30 stone to these 2 giants.

Harry and Jason were both present to receive there cheques from former Middleweight Champion of the world "The Paddington Express
" Terry Downes.
A huge thank you goes to all HCEBA members and all the other ex boxers associations that contributed.
President Bob Williams has been fantasic. Apart from giving his time to MC Harry's November fundraiser, he has now been instrumental in this latest fundraising effort. A big thanks Bob from 'H' and his familly.
Saturday February 5th 2011
Former British featherweight champion Darren 'Dazzo' Williams made a visit to 'H's home. Darren had a short spell at 'H's amateur club The Lynn AC when he started out on the long road to title glory. The two have remained friends ever since.
Dazzo, who lives in Herefordshire, runs his own amateur club: Wye ABC which he says keeps him busy. He brought along his British title belt, which he won outright with two wins over Roy Rutherford, and one apiece over Jamie McKeever and current British Champion John Simpson.

The Senior clan helped me celebrate my 49th birthday this weekend.
Pictured left to right are: Charlene, Kerry (My Mrs), Sandra, Lathea, Leonie and 'H'.
A good time was had by all (especially Sandra who got plastered) and it was good to see 'H' in top form.
We have made arrangements this week with Dazzo Williams for 'H' to be guest of honour at Dazzo's upcoming April 9th club show in Hereford.
Friday April 8th 2011
Finally got round to re-producing Matt Christie's Boxing News article.
Big thanks to Matt (pictured right) for the article and to Tris Dixon (Editor of BN) for featuring it.
There are some great people in the sport of boxing that truly want to help when these accidents happen. Matt and Tris are two of those people.
Thanks again guys.
Saturday 9th April 2011
'H' was guest of honour at Wye ABC's England select Vs Wales select show at The Point 4 Sports Center in Hereford. Thanks must go to the members and management of Wye ABC especially Dazzo Williams and Vince McNally.
Pictured left with 'H' is former British, Commonwealth and European Welterweight champion Colin Jones who looked after the very talented Welsh team. Apart from the afore mentioned titles Colin challenged 3 times for world honours. When you travel to Las Vegas and get a draw against an unbeaten American that is being groomed for greatness, you can take it that you are the uncrowned champion. MORE PIC'S............

The news 'H' has been waiting to hear for what seems like an eternity. On Tuesday 19th April he will enter hospital to have cranial reconstructive surgery.
Back in October he was given a CT scan to take measurements so that a titanium plate could be made to replace the section of skull that was removed in December 2009 when he had his stroke.
The operation will take place on Wednesday and he is expected to stay in hospital for 5 days or more.
I will keep the website updated as soon as there is news.
Friday 22nd April 2011
'H's operation went very well and when i got to the hospital yesterday he was sitting up in bed watching TV. Considering the fact that he had undergone a 3 hour surgery on his skull the day before i thought he looked amazingly well.
Apart from the obvious swelling and a few sticking plasters he looks exactly as he did before the stroke.
He is expected to leave hospital on Saturday.
'H' had first spot in the operating room on Wednesday morning (8.30am). The people involved in this sort of surgery are so amazing. Imagine going to work and changing someones life for the good like this everyday.
